A traditional dish
Cook: 60 min
Ingredients
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 1/4 c. oil
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 1/2 c. rice
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 Tbsp. paprika
- 1 can tomato soup
- 1 c. water
Instructions
Simmer garlic and onion in 1/4 cup oil for a few minutes, until soft. Cut center core out of head of cabbage, then cook cabbage in large pot until leaves come loose. Set aside. Wash rice and let drain. Cook rice, stirring occasionally so it doesn't stick. Let it come to a boil until it starts to get soft. Drain. Add salt, pepper, and paprika to rice and mix. Add rice to ground beef and mix thoroughly. Place beef mixture in each cabbage leaf and fold (after placing beef in cabbage leaf, fold lengthwise and roll to hold mixture together). Mix 1 can tomato soup and 1 cup water and pour over Halupki. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for approximately 1 hour. Add salt, pepper, and paprika to taste. A mixture of ground turkey and beef can also be used.
